So apparently Microsoft and its local subsidiary Microsoft Philippines has been slammed with a lawsuit by SEC (southeastern college) over the use of a manual that they created to teach people how to use Office XP (If they mean the new Vistafied version, I’d a like a copy because that version is total ass). Here are the facts as I understand them:
- SEC made a manual for the use of XP that was to be distributed to its students and teachers
- Microsoft Philippines licensed the use of the manual to print it out and distribute to public school teachers nationwide, in their “Partners in Learning” program
- Microsoft allegedly distributed the same manual, this time in .pdf format, in CDs given our during corporate events
- SEC Conrad Manalac feels like they gots to get paid, so they try to negotiate terms with Microsoft Philippines
- Negotiations fail, and Microsoft gets slapped (poetically) with a copyright infringment lawsuit
Based on the facts above it’s obvious that Microsoft made a gaffe and was unable to reach a compromise with SEC. I hardly think they did this with full intent, as there was nothing to be gained from it. I’m not sure why they couldn’t achieve a compromise with SEC, but it’s amusing that the rules of copyright infringement have been turned on its supposed watchdog.
good for them. a dose of their own medicine. they’ve been banging around anybody with their weight now they got caught biting their own foot. hahah!
go pinoy go!
