Clearance Sale

I’m selling all most of my toys. I’m sad to see them go, but I don’t have space to keep them anymore. Check them out here if you’re interested, or if you know someone who is. Or if you know someone who deals in toys who might want to buy them wholesale. Don’t know about the prices yet but we can talk about that if you’re really interested in something.

Batman lego gear! Suhweeeeeeet!

Right, So I’ve been trying to be a good geek, not buying anything superfluous or unnecessary like action figures, comics, games and whatnot, but when I saw these things I just had to have them, especially since I’m a sale whore. I got me some keychains, and a 3-pack of Batman, Penguin, and two-face in lego form! Behold, my Batman lego gear:

This is why having a geek girlfriend rocks.

transformers-busts.jpg

I am now the proud owner of two Transformers “hard hero” busts, namely Ironhide and Soundwave. Aissa got them for me this christmas, and I couldn’t be happier. Oh and the coolest thing? They’re limited edition busts, so I am now the proud owner of 1 of 5000 soundwave busts and 1 of just 4000 ironhide busts! That limited edition nonsense always suckers me in. Plus, I kind of prefer busts to action figures because they’re low maintenance. Action figures you gotta pose every now and then, make sure they stand properly. Busts just sit still and look pretty all the time.

Unfortunately, this now makes me want to collect the other busts in the collection, like prowl or devastator, and that means busting open the piggy bank again.

For the Left wing radical extremist in your life

axisofevil.jpg

Axis of Evil toys!  This should come in handy whenever you feel like being stopped for questioning at major american airports.  Comes with Osama bin Laden, Kim Jong-Il, the man himself, mr. George Dubya Bush, and the ghost of Saddam Hussein!

You’d have to be insane or an extremely rich left wing pseudo celebrity activist (hello, michael moore) to buy this set for 120 dollars, but they’re really cute nonetheless.

This might finally push me over the edge…

..To finally get an iPod. Oh.my.God. iPod touch. look at the size of that screen. Can you imagine watching videos on this baby? It would almost make converting Xvids downloaded off bittorrent to work on it.

Collectibles Corner

As anyone who’s known me long enough can attest to, I love to collect things.  Entering my room is like being in the localized version of the 40 year old virgin.  I collect toys, books, comics, cards, just way too much shit to fit into a single room.  My defense has always been “well it’s an investment” but really, it’s not.  Still, I do have to admit that my taste for toys has waned in recent years because I no longer have the shelf space necessary to display them.  So if I get a toy it has to be A) fantastically cheap and/or B) look really cool/funny.  Hence:

It’s a Japanese KISS Ace Frehley SD figure.  How strangely odd an awesome is that?  The packaging totally got me, and it set me back 70 pesos at the toy palace in farmer’s market.  They have some X-men toys from ‘95 and some odd Mad Max stuff too.  Any toy aficionado should definitely check it out.

And on the matter of saving space, I’ve recently checked out some of the NBA cards they have up on ebay.ph, and there’s really quite a few gems there, like these two cards:

bballcards.jpg

The one on the left is an excellent/near mint 1978 topps Kareem Abdul Jabbar card.  It’s was printed out before I was even born!  No idea how much it costs, but really, to find a gem like this in the Philippines is pretty damn rare.  The card on the right is a Marcus Camby/Moses Malone card that’s autographed by Moses Malone.  Moses was THE Malone before Karl came onto the scene, and is contemporary of Jabbar and Chamberlain.  Autographed cards always increase the value of a card, especially since this is one out of a thousand.

I actually quit buying NBA cards around 10 years ago because it felt kind of silly to be paying so much to buy pieces of cardboard with pretty pictures on them.  But after collecting toys for a few years, you kind of learn to put things in perspective.  Besides, at least NBA cards have some relation to the real world, and you can store a whole collection in a single drawer.

Beyond the Window (and onto the pavement)

In homage to my FRIEND mapet’s photoblog, I present to you the saga of shyguy and bull-bull (only funny to those of a filipino persuasion).

Hi there, my name is shyguy. I live a meaningless existence in a 12th floor office somewhere in makati and sometimes when the mood is right I wonder what lies beyond the dirty window that obscures my view of the city.

Oh hello there, reflection of me. Say, I was wondering, how’s life over there? Is there really a meaning to all of this? Is life really better on the other side? Only one way to find out you say? Well, that’s true isn’t it. Well then, I’ve made up my mind. I will journey the other side…

…on my faithful steed, bull-bull! Who apparently appears out of nowhere, right beneath me. Bull-bull is a red bull. Red bulls have lots and lots of energy. Truth. He will be very useful in traveling the world beyond the window.

And so my friends, I bid you farewell. My journey begins here, and I do not know when it will end, but I’m sure I will have a wealth of experiences and stories upon my return.

MANILA (AP) — reports of a masked man astride a bull falling to their deaths in Makati city have been confirmed. Residents of Manila’s main commercial district claim they heard the sound of breaking glass before hearing a large thump similar to the sound of meat falling on the pavement. A really, really large hunk of meat.

Philippine police have no clue as to the identities of the victims, or if this was a suicide. Initial forensic analysis has yielded no clues to the identity of the fatalities, as the man riding the bull seems to have a mask that simply “won’t come off”. No identification information could be found on the man, so the police will have to resort to DNA testing.

The latest reports indicate that a bespectacled office worker was seen walking around the bodies mumbling something to himself about “going beyond the window”, but this has yet to be confirmed.

More updates on this story as new information arrives.

Transformers follow up

transformers-soundwave-mp3.jpg

Now that I’m over the movie, here’s something that’ll perk up even the most disheartened Transformers fan: A soundwave mp3 player!

Also, because I can’t express myself clearly enough, I shall direct you to two podcasts that say exactly why I wasn’t quite floored by transformers. One reason they brought to light about the redesigns that I entirely agree with was that one of the things that made the transformers so fun was that even in their robot forms you could tell what they were supposed to be. But in the movie, they were so “robotized” it was almost impossible to tell what they transformed to in vehicle form.

Back to Soundwave. Interesting that he’s called “music label” soundwave. Is he in the pay of music execs?  Is this what happened after he got kicked off the set of the Transformers movie?  That’s right, he’s the RIAA’s new semi-legal watcdog, and he’ll track all you music pirating criminals down!
